T-Mobile plans to revolutionize mobile industry![]() T-mobile made an announcement last week that in an ordinary week would have gotten lots of attention, but with the i-Phone launch occurring at that time, it was not noticed by a lot of consumers. It is a revolutionary idea that could save a lot of folks on their mobile phone bills. T-Mobile's new HotSpot @ Home service offers free calling to users when they are in a Wi-Fi hotspot. You use the phone the same as always — you still get your normal calling features — but now your voice is carried by the Internet rather than the cellular airwaves. T-Mobile's new HotSpot@Home costs $10.00 per month in addition to your normal plan, but when you are in a Wi-Fi Hotspot, you don't use your minutes. Only when on cellular towers will your minute be utilized. Do you have poor cell coverage at home? As long as you have broadband and the Hotspot@Home service, you should have perfect signal at home. It does require a special phone, but once you have that, you are ready to go! There are several ways this service can save you money. 1 You won't burn minutes while in a hot spot. If you are a high volume user, but spend a lot of time in hot spots, you could drop down to a cheaper plan but still talk as much as you currently do. 2. You could eliminate your home phone. If you have a broadband connection, and your T-mobile, why bother with home phone service? 3. The service cannot distinguish between calls made in the US and those abroad. If you travel a lot, and are in hot spots, your US calls are free. 4 The service bills call for where they began, You could start a call at home, drive out of the area, and the call would still be free. Also this is a downside, because if you start a call on the cell network, and continue the call after you get home, that call is burning minutes. Currently T-Mobile only has two phones which support the service. The Nokia 6086 and the Samsung T409. Both of them are $50 after rebate, and are basic flip phones. T-mobile can also supply you with a wireless router for your house(Free after a $50.00 rebate) if you don't already have one. T-mobile plans to expand the phone selections for the service and also the $10 introductory monthly price is going to increase in the future. Right now it is $10.00 for individual plans and $20 for family plans. It will eventually go to $20 for individuals and $30 for families, hurry and take advantage of it now at the introductory price. |
